Red Door Interiors Mood Board The Clique Lifestyle

Red Door is an Interior Design studio in the West End of Glasgow offering all aspects of creative residential and commercial Interiors by Lisa Trainer, from initial design concepts and mood boards, to detailed drawings, product specifying, project management and procurement. We sat down with Lisa from Red Door to hear a little about how she got started in the industry and the ups and downs of running your own company.

How long have you had your company for?

We have been established at our studio in Partick for almost 2 years although the company was registered in 2013 and I worked from an office at home.

What did you do before?

After graduating at Duncan of Jordanstone college of art in Dundee I have always been involved in interior design projects working with many other companies. During this time, I also brought up my family whilst always juggling a variety of residential and commercial projects.

What was the inspiration for your company?

Working from home as an independent designer led me to looking for a more professional workspace and a studio to showcase the variety of products and finishes I specify in my projects. Many of these are Scottish by design and this is a passion and focus within my business.

How did you design your branding?

The branding is designed from an original painting called Red Door painted by a special friend. It symbolises the significance of a new start, creativity and design.

Biggest challenge setting up your company?

Managing my time and learning about the formalities of book-keeping and business admin.

Favourite thing about your job?

A project that involves technical design and detailing on the drawing board through all the stages of construction, site meetings and product research and specifying to actually watching the creation of the new space.

Advice to people starting up in your industry?

Be brave, be confident and if it is something you love it will fulfill your aspirations.

Thoughts on Scottish interiors?

There is an abundance of hugely talented designers, makers and trades in Scotland from wallpaper and textile manufacturers to furniture, lighting and flooring suppliers. This collaboration creates an unique portfolio of specialist interior design.

Dreams for the future?

To continue to develop and create unique, inspirational interiors.

Career high?

The utter joy of seeing a project from start to finish as I have done over the last year working form the studio with an inspirational group of clients, designers, professionals and my Red Door team

Favourite trend for AW18?

Sumptuous velvets, bold dramatic colour and specialist carefully designed lighting.
